Parenthetical Farms
The land that now holds Parenthetical Farms has served the Corrales community through successive agricultural uses spanning nearly four decades. For many decades this property was utilized as pasture land for cattle grazing as a piece of Corrales’ agricultural heritage. In 2018, the property transitioned to equestrian use as a horse property, maintaining its agricultural heritage while adapting to new purposes.
The residence, constructed in 1987, anchors a property that returned to intensive food production in December 2024, when farmer Ben Dickerson established Parenthetical Farms. Drawing on regenerative agriculture principles, Ben transformed the former horse property into a micro-farm and market garden focused on natural farming methods. The conversion involved hand-digging 42 furrowed planting beds and applying compost, and over 250 cubic yards of mulch—a practice designed to protect soil microbial life from the challenges of the high desert climate.
Ben utilizes native species, perennial and annual interplanting, and cover crops to maximize species diversity which supports a diversity of flora and fauna throughout the growing system. Today, Parenthetical Farms represents a renewed commitment to working the land, prioritizing soil health and regenerative practices that honor both the property's agricultural past and a look towards the future of land stewardship in Corrales.
Hello, my name is Ysabela Trujillo. I am a farmer and dancer raised here in Corrales on my family's small farm - Corrales Classic Farms. I’ve spent most of my life helping my parents Russell and Sharon Trujillo grow food for our family and community.
After graduating from UNM I focused on my dance career as an educator teaching at the Corrales Dance Studio, United World College, National Institute of Flamenco, and many outreach programs throughout the state, country and internationally. I co-found a music and dance collective called Spanish Broom Flamenco that works to present free performances throughout the community. I have also danced and collaborated with multiple companies and organizations including Yjastros the American Flamenco Repertory Company, Emiarte Flamenco, Orchestra of New Spain, Lisa Nevada Dance, Phoenix World Arts and more.
Meanwhile, my parents still kept our small farm growing! Over the past five years I have been helping to manage our farm business, increase our production and bring locally grown food to more folks in our community. I am proud to continue my family's work and provide a nutrient rich source of produce for the village and beyond. Come visit us at the Corrales Growers Market throughout the year and help us to continue our work!
