Composting for Healthy Soils

  • Indigenous Farm Hub 6400 Corrales Road Corrales, NM, 87048 United States (map)

“In this interactive workshop, we’ll review how compost fits into healthy soil principles and the

food recovery hierarchy, then focus on principles underlying aerobic composting. There are

many methods for compost production that don’t always work in a mix and match way, so we’ll

highlight the key factors to consider for what will work based on resources and constraints at

each household or farm. Expect lots of discussion and learning from each other so bring your

questions and knowledge!”

Dr. Eva Stricker is a research professor at UNM Biology and part-time evaluator at the Quivira

Coalition. Eva has been studying the effects of compost and other organic amendments on

rangelands for the past six years and helped produce the “Rural Dryland Composting” technical

guide for Quivira. She wants to help everyone release their “compost shame” and empower folks

to try things and see what works best for them.
